Rhythm and blues is an interesting genre, it is the last step in musical evolution before rock & roll was born. Although I don’t much listen to R&B myself, I understand its importance in history. Generally today there are many R&B elements still in the popular music world. A very interesting genre that I never really thought much about was gospel. Now that I have an understanding how it came about, I can see its importance in musical history. The fact that a typical Blues man decided to change the game is heart warming to me!

When thinking about where popular music came from, the blues is a genre that is impossible to overlook. To me, the same rules apply for the blues as they do for my beloved punk rock. Where as I don’t see them as a music genre, but rather a lifestyle. The element of blues that I love the most is that is real. By real I mean songs were played by the very men that felt the sorrow. This makes for a much better song performance, could you imagine seeing a man belt out his troubles in a triumphunt cry? Its the raw emotion that comes from these men that makes the blues such a real and in your face thing. Eventually people began to find this very entertaining and the blues came out of the folk world and onto the stage. The best part about the blues is what comes after, which is rock & roll, then eventually where my speciality lies, punk rock! The blues is punk rock before punk rock, They are real people telling their real troubles, with no gimmicks.
