Troubleshooting the Brush Installation Process

Brushes are a great Photoshop design tool that can really add some neat effects to any image. Another great thing about brushes is that you can download thousands of them online for free. This is wonderful for increasing the amount of options you have to work with when designing or editing your images. However, sometimes the installation process is trifled with error messages or Photoshop doesn’t even acknowledge that the downloaded brushes exist. Today on The Brain Wrack, I will show you how to best troubleshoot the brush installation process.

Much of the time, the Photoshop brush installation process will be as simple as download, uncompress, and open in Photoshop. Sometimes this method doesn’t work and you’ll have to take a longer, more complicated approach: this could mean a long process of digging through your computer files. The way to do this is by accessing your Photoshop files under your C: drive and navigating to your brushes folder. Then, you’ll take your new uncompressed brushes and insert them into the Brushes folder. This is my preferred method of installing brushes due to the ability to install many different files at a time unlike the direct instalation process. This method works, but sometimes the brushes still might not work afterwards.

Don’t worry. If this is the case, make sure that you have chosen the right path to install your brushes. You can tell if you have, if you’re Brushes folder is filled with Photoshop’s default brushes. Simply backtrack and find the right path to install your brushes from if you find yourself in the wrong path. Most of the time this path will be Under the C; Drive, but this can vary based on computer hardware.

Did these methods work for you? What other sort of Photoshop problems have you faced?

I’m Nathanael McNutt and this has been your brain Wrack of the day.
