There are over one billion active monthly users on Instagram. It is one of the most popular and fastest-growing social media sites. If your business does not have an Instagram profile, it is time to create one. Follow these steps on how to create an Instagram Business account.

Step 1: Download the app

Unlike other social media sites, Instagram was created for mobile use. The app is completely free to download.

Step 2: Create your account by using an email address

Make sure to use your business email here. This is a great way for contacts to find you quicker.

Step 3: Choose your username

Next, you’ll be asked to create a username and password. This is a very important part. Make sure your username is the name of your business (the username will be used on the app to find your account). You need a username that will differentiate you from a personal account.

Step 4: Find friends

You will be asked to find friends through your Facebook friends and within your phone’s contacts. However, since there is nothing posted to your profile yet, you should skip this step till later (you can always come back to this step).

Step 5: Choose a profile picture

Your profile picture should be your logo or something that is associated with your business. Click on “Add a photo,” you’ll be given a few photo import options.

Once your profile picture is uploaded you can save your information or simply “Skip” this step.

Next, a page with suggested accounts to follow will appear. Do not follow any accounts just yet. Hit the “Done” in the top right corner to continue.

Step 6: Edit Profile

Click on the profile button in the bottom right to view your account. Click “Edit Your Profile.” Fill out a bio and the best way to contact your business. If you have a website for your business add the URL to your bio, so people can navigate right to your site.

Step 7: Instagram for Business

Finally, click “Try Instagram for Business Tools” and follow the self-guided instructions to complete your profile.

Make sure to link your Facebook business page. Create content, and make sure to post frequently. You now have the option to pay Instagram to display a specific ad for your company. To learn more about Instagram paid ads, click here.
