Issues that came with choosing to do Video Production

01/10/2020 - Uncategorized

At first, I thought to be in video production for my major was going to be just fun and hard work. After all this time taking classes, I’ve come to realize that its more than just hard work and fun. There was so much thought that went into this decision of being a production major. I enjoy everything I have done up this point as a production student, but there are moments where the stress of the class selection overcomes the fun, I can have taken those classes. What kept me pushing through all those hard times?
I’ve seen so many who have changed their majors because of disinterest or because they realized later that they did not want what they first thought they would. I went through my first two years without having a good clue about what I wanted to do. I dabbled in a little bit of everything because I wanted to see where my different interests would take me. I later came to see for myself the struggles that came with being disinterested in something and it almost cost me more money and time in college.
The way I overcame this stressful time was by taking classes that would be able to transfer into multiple directions no matter what I wanted to do with my career. The way I found my love for communications media was from a few classes and a conversation with one of my professors who helped me center my focus. I was able to talk to my advisor and have my branch of the communications media major changed with enough time and it didn’t affect my classes or graduation time. I would say anyone who chooses a major with production to take classes outside of that as well because those classes can either guide you in a different direction or they can help your skills later for different occupancies.
Moving forward to do something you enjoy will be easy when you know what you want to do with your degree. Exploring all options of careers with your set degree will help you know what classes to take to help better your knowledge. I would encourage whoever is looking to do production for communication media to dabble in a little bit of everything.
