What do I want to use my skills for?

01/08/2020 - Uncategorized

Continuing my exploration in the world of video editing is what keeps my mind moving for new ideas. I want to keep building off my skills and perfect the craft I have begun for myself. I’ve been asked consistently what I want to do when I graduate college and I would never have a straightforward answer. I am looking to use my skills to help better my community and I start with my fraternity.
The communications media field is a very competitive one and a lot of my fraternity brothers own degrees in that field. I have seen some of the work they do and have done, it makes me want to push for even greater heights. Even though this field is competitive, it is also motivational and inspiring to see so many of us come together to help build upon one another skills. I have so much I want to learn from brothers I know who teach this to others or who are out in the field where the action is getting all the experience they can get.
I want to help add a new perspective to my fraternity and gain knowledge of how they do their videography for performances. When we do performances, we tend to always record and take video after video and never really do anything creative with it consistently to the point where others are craving more of it. I want to help bring that kind of attention to our creativity so its not only our performance that people are hype over but our video productions as well. I want to give people something that has them wanting to watch it repeatedly.
As my next and final semester as an undergrad quickly approaches, I will be looking to do more recording for others in the fraternity. We practice a lot and always want brothers from other schools to participate in our strolls, but they do not always know all the same strolls that we do. For those who do not know what strolls or strolling is, it is simply what we call or dances to pay homage to our ancestors. We plan to learn a lot of new strolls this semester and I want to make a collage of videos to have for when I leave. They will be memories I will cherish but also pass along for the next group of brothers who want to join the brotherhood.
If you have something your passionate about doing, why not try to contribute that to the ones around you? You never know in which ways someone you’re with every day could use your skills for something or put you in place to use your skills to help someone else. Try to expose yourself to new things every day and see where that lands you. It may be the exact place you want to be, but you won’t know till you try and explore it for yourself.
