Balling on a budget while in the photography business isn’t necessarily a bad thing. You don’t need the most expensive camera body, lenses, and extra add-ons to create great photos. Starting your business small is a good thing! Let your business pay for itself as you grow. So, what three things should you start your photography business with?
Let me first tell you what I started out with. Let me preface this by saying that everyone is different, and this is just what I preferred and wanted.
This also depends on what type of photography you want to get into. When I first started in photography, I bought a Canon Rebel T7. This is a phenomenal camera. Once I got my camera there were 3 things that I bought for my camera bag first.
- 50mm 1.8 aperture lens
- Lightroom/Photoshop
- Tripod
A 50 mm lens with a 1.8 aperture is the best! This lens is also referred to as the “nifty fifty”. Anyone and everyone will tell you to get this lens. It is crisp and with the wide aperture, you can create some amazing Bokeh shots.
This lens is perfect for portraits.
I also want to add that no matter what lens you get, try, and stay with a fixed lens. A fixed lens means that you can’t zoom in or out. This is important because a fixed lens is just better. Also, fixed lenses have wider apertures and when you are shooting, sometimes you need to go as low as you can.
Lightroom and Photoshop from the Adobe Creative Suite is a must. There is so much you can do with this package deal. Every photographer I know uses these programs for post-production work.
If by chance you can only afford one, then go with Lightroom. Lightroom allows you to change exposure, colors, and make your image more detailed or blurry wherever you need it. Lightroom also allows you to fix mistakes such as a stained t-shirt or if there is something in the picture that you don’t want then you can most likely remove that as well.
This one seems pretty generic, but it is a lifesaver. A tripod is a must. Tripods are good for taking portraits, for filming, or for taking pictures at night. The reason a tripod is good to use at night is that if you have a low shutter speed to let more light in, then you need to keep your camera completely still.
If you don’t keep your camera still with a long shutter speed, then the motion will be tracked, and it will create waves all throughout your image. Tripods are just really handy, and I recommend getting one. You can actually get a pretty cheap one at Walmart.
What do you think should be your first three items for your camera bag? If they are different than the ones, I picked then let us know what you recommend and why! Please comment down below and don’t forget to check out my other blog posts. Thank you so much!
