When you are first getting into photography you soon realize how important it is to know how to edit your photos. Every picture you take, no matter how great you think they are, will need to be edited. Maybe there is a certain style that you want your photos to have and you prefer your colors to pop. If you haven’t bought the Adobe Creative suite yet, then please do.
When I started editing my work, I realized that I could edit my work in both Lightroom and Photoshop with such ease. I had to take some photos for a class I was in and in this photo, I wanted my friend to blow smoke and we would backlight the smoke. The only angle we could get the smoke to really light up and not have the light holder in the shot caused a small problem. The light source started showing. I knew that if I took the photo into Photoshop that it could be fixed. However, first I needed to brighten up and edit my photo through Lightroom. After this was done, I could start removing the Light source.
There are many ways to do this. However, for my specific circumstance, I used the selection tool to outline the object to get rid of. This was pretty tough because it was right behind my friend’s neck. I had to zoom in and take extra time with detail. Then you will delete that, and a box will pop up and you need to make sure that the content-aware box is selected.
This may not come out as perfect as you want it to. The content-aware tool will do the best it can, but it is up to you to then grab the healing brush to try and smooth out that area. In this particular image, it is pretty dark around the neck, so it isn’t terrible to fix. However, you do have to be mindful of the neck and not smear it. The pictures down below are the examples that I am referring to.
It is important to be knowledgeable of different photoshop and Lightroom features. If you want to learn more about Photoshop and Lightroom then I suggest looking up Julieanne Kost. Her tutorials are the ones that I used all throughout college because they are so easy to learn from.
I hope this tutorial was easy for you to understand. As always, if you have any questions, please let me know down below. Also, what are some of your editing questions that would like me to cover? Don’t forget to check out my other blog posts! Thank you so much!
