Linda McCartney

No matter what field we are in, we always have someone to look up to. There are always ordinary people doing extraordinary things. This is true for my photography idol, Linda McCartney. A young girl from New York who went to school to be a History teacher had picked up a hobby of photography. To give you a sneak peek of Linda’s success, she would become the first female to have her work featured on the cover of Rolling Stone with her picture of Eric Clapton.

I am a huge Paul McCartney fan and I admire music from the ’60s and ’70s. I first heard of Linda McCartney because she was on tour with her husband Paul for the Wings tour. I then started stumbling upon her work and realized that two of my favorite hobbies were being represented by her. Immediately I connected with this artist because I am a musician as well as a photographer. The reason I choose Linda McCartney’s work over anyone else is because of the style that she uses. The look and the feel of her work are what I try to replicate in my own work.

What I admire about Linda McCartney’s work is how candid they are. In fact, a lot of her photos are just simple. With her photos, you don’t always get prim and proper, but you get real and raw stuff. She does get creative especially with her self-portraits. I can only assume that people loved her work back in the ’70s is because her work was so raw, and it would have been so unusual to see a different side of Paul and the other Beatles. In today’s world, we feel as if we have to wear our best clothes and take the best most orchestrated photos, but Linda went for candid.

Linda is also known for her humanitarian efforts when she and Paul became a vegetarian. She wrote vegetarian cookbooks and created the Linda McCartney food range. Her photography became more to her than just photographing rock stars. Aside from her cookbooks, she would use her gift of photography to promote the protection of wildlife. Another accolade for Linda is she is the only person to have been honored at the Royal Photographic Society by three different exhibitions.
McCartney still has work hung in both the UK and the USA and her work has also been shown in galleries in 15 different countries.

My advice to you is to find an idol you can look up to. Someone who shares similar interests and takes pride in their work. I admire Linda McCartney because of how she used her work to promote causes near and dear to herself. She kept everything simple and real. I believe that is what we should all do. Let yourself shine through your work.
