Coaches impact on an NFL team

Despite being professional athletes, every NFL player still has certain parts of their game that they need to critique or work on to bet the best version of themself. Each team hires a select number of coaches to guide the team in the right direction to eventually succeed. And having the right coaches can make or break a team’s season. A lot of people don’t take into consideration the impact that these coaches have on an NFL organization. And today, I am here to talk about the impact coaches (specifically head coach) has on an NFL team and what organizations look for when hiring a coach.

Coaches are typically responsible for their designated area of concern. The offensive line coach works to help the offensive line and the linebackers coach works with specifically the linebackers. These coaches are fully responsible for the success of their designated position group, but one job that is responsible for all position groups is the head coach. The head coach essentially approves of the defensive and offensive schemes run by the team and puts in the personnel that he believes will perform the best on Sundays. Being that he has so much power with running the organization, the coach gets a lot of praise when the team is winning yet receives a lot of complaints and issues when the team is doing poorly. This is why an organization that typically underperforms goes through multiple head coaches every few seasons. If these coaches cant find a way to help the team win then they are usually fired the following year.

Coaches essentially serve as role models to these young athletes. They look up to their coaches who mentor them on and off the field. You may think coaches only care about what goes on the field, but some of the greatest coaches care personally about each individual player and makes sure they are making the right choices off the field. A lot of these players come from rough backgrounds and never received anyone that they could look up to for guidance. So a lot of these coaches essentially act as “fatherly figures” towards these players, giving them a sense of comfort and reliability. These coaches also set the tone in the locker room. They have to serve as authority figures and fire up the team with enthusiasm to get them mentally prepared to play the game. If coaches don’t show passion and love for the game, then the players won’t reciprocate that. This is why coaches need to inspire players to want to be successful and always have a winning mentality despite dealing with adversity.

the hiring process for coaches is a lot more complex than one might initially perceive it to be. The biggest key factor is obviously experience. Organizations typically look for candidates who have prior experience either being a college football head coach or being some sort of positional coach in the NFL. They’re success while coaching also is a huge factor. These organizations want to see that a coach has a winning background and came from a team with a good culture. Having a long tenure with an organization typically means that the team thinks you are a piece of their success. So having multiple years of experience with the same organization means usually that the team relied on you tow in games. Coaches come and go all the time, but determining the right fit for a head coach can determine a team’s success.

Be sure to leave any comments you may have about NFL coaches in general. I would love to hear what you all have to say regarding this topic. I am a firm believer in a coach determining a team’s success with an effective game plan. I leave you all with a few questions to consider: What is the biggest factor to consider when hiring an NFL coach? Do you believe there are too many coaches on a given NFL team? Do coaches need prior experience when being hired?

As always, make sure to leave any questions or concerns that you may have. I know this topic can leave a lot of people curious, so don’t hesitate to ask. be sure to like and subscribe to the blog if you haven’t done so already and make sure to tune in tomorrow as I talk about some early surprises in the  NBA season thus far.
