When I was living on my college campus, I was fascinated with what I ate and how much I went to the gym. I’d watch anything that went through my mouth, and I’d feel bad if I didn’t go to the gym every day. Although my body was safe, my mind was a toxic environment, because I had my own unreasonable standards. One of the reasons why I write and coach about mindset work now is because I know that I am only as healthy as my mind is.The deeper I’ve digged into mental work, the more I’ve found those habits that tie us down as we’re trying to create changes in our lives. When our emotions are unhealthful, we seem to succumb to insecurity, confusion, overwhelm, and concern. In this post, I’m sharing five main elements to concentrate on in order to maintain a balanced mind. If you’re an overthinker, a procrastinator, or a perfectionist, is this a post for you?
What is a healthy mindset?
A balanced mind means seeking ways to learn from your emotions instead of allowing them to dominate your life. Instead of focusing on a negative thought until it becomes debilitating, a balanced mind seeks to a) step past that thought, or b) just embrace it.
Instead of obsessing over a good mind (I wrote about why you don’t need to do it in this post), we can concentrate on maintaining a balanced mind. I mention that because you should have a balanced mind even though you still feel bad.
So what do you need for a healthy mindset?
After compiling as much information as I could from people who have shared their struggles with me (via email, DMs, comments, and coaching), I discovered a few patterns and tendencies when it comes to mindset setbacks.
Centered on these trends, I’ve drawn up a list of the top five things we can concentrate on to promote greater satisfaction, pleasure, and achievement.
This aren’t the rules. I don’t expect you to look at this list, because I don’t think you’re in any way inadequate when you’re struggling with it. We just do it. But if you can pick 2-3 items out of this list and make a deliberate attempt to focus on them, you can continue to see an amazing improvement in your thought.
5 reasons Of A Healthy Mindset
Calmness
The ability to relax your mind while you’re under pressure is key to a balanced mind. When your emotions are all over the place, it’s hard to see things as they truly are. Calmness comes when you make people mindful of what’s going on and what you’re thinking. By figuring out go-to strategies and practices that calm your mind, you can center yourself and recognize when you’re overthinking or worrying about insignificant details.
Clarity
Having a good understanding of what is important to you is the secret to coping with indecision. Too much of our brain capacity is taken up because we’re not sure who we are and what we want. When you’re straightforward on your objectives, goals, and beliefs, you will eliminate the overwhelm that comes with confusion.
Compassion
One of the greatest causes to an unhealthful mind is a lack of respect for yourself. When you continually compare yourself to others, press yourself to be better, and underestimate your own ability, you just sabotage your performance. Compassion helps you to embrace yourself, to set reasonable goals, and to trust yourself and your path.
Concentration
Concentration is about self-commitment and determination. We live in an age of distractions, which makes it all too easy to lose track of what’s important to you and who you are. When you concentrate on what other people do instead of your own course, you get trapped. Focusing on what counts and making sacrifices for your time makes it easier for you to follow along and really make changes.
Courage
Courage is inspiring us to take initiative. If we give up and stop taking initiative, we’re trapped. Courage might sound like it’s about taking large, terrifying leaps into the unknown, but sometimes courage is as small as tackling a basic task you’ve been putting off. Courage encourages us to take imperfect action, and that
action helps us create trust, courage, and power within ourselves.
