Remote Internships

My normal practice is to discourage remote internships. However, with the unprecidented event of mass layoffs in Washington D.C. and federal layoffs around the country, I am changing that policy and will permit remote internships this summer to broaden the opportunities for you.

Time to See Dr. Lenze!

There is just a little more than four weeks left to secure an internship for Summer 2025. I keep a log of every student who visits me about internships. I’d like to see more names on that log! Please stop in for chocolate and perhaps a little help in finding an internship. Here is how internship searches go.

  1. Find the internship. Apply; hopefully on the same day.
  2. Hear back from the internship in one week. Schedule an interview, probably for the next week.
  3. Interview.
  4. Get an offer during the interview or within a day or two.
  5. Get the internship to sign paperwork and submit Site Offer Form and Student Data Sheet to Dr. Lenze.

All of that takes about four weeks when the process goes smoothly. In other words, we’re in the end game now! Are you applying to 10 internships a week through Indeed? Have you been to see me during office hours? There is still time to find a great internship! I hope I see you soon!

I Can’t Find an Internship!

Many students, at the end of February, start to feel anxious about finding an internship. Let me start this blog post by saying there is still a lot of time to find an internship, but you need to kick it into high gear now! Back in the fall, in COMM 400, I told you the following.

  • You start looking in January.
  • You apply for 10 internships a week through Indeed or other sources.
  • You meet with Dr. Lenze early in the spring and as often as needed till you get an internship.

So, how are you doing with that plan? Are you applying to 10 a week? Have you been to see me during office hours? Did you start looking and applying in January? If the answer to any of those questions is no, then start now!

  1. Update your account on Indeed. Upload your resume, reference letters, and any other relevant documents and start applying!
  2. Visit Dr. Lenze. Office hours are MWF 9-10 and MW 1:30 – 3. Other times by appointment. Zoom appointments available!

It is not too late by far! But you can’t wait any longer! I hope I see you soon!
