I chose this chapter because of the interesting things that we learned in class. Specifically speaking, Little Richard’s popular song “Tutti Frutti”. I enjoyed comparing the many significant differences that Little Richard’s version and Pat Boone’s version had. For example, the way that Little Richard actually got into the song and how Pat Boone’s version was dolled up and made for all show. David Brackett, author of “The Pop, Rock, and Soul” stated it best when he described Little Richard’s performance that made him one of the biggest stars of the rock n’ roll era as “extroverted and energetic singing, piano playing, and song writing.” Another interesting thing that I read from the chapter is that he wore make-up and gaudy clothing, in a cross-dresser fashion, which was not as accepting as it is today(although it still is looked down upon today also.) Lastly, it surprised me that he ended his singing career and left for the ministry because that is a big change for a person to do so fast.
