I think it’s probably safe to say it’s the first instrument that comes to mind when many of us think of a modern musician. The guitar, whether acoustic or electric is a favorite among millions, and for great reasons. The question is, if you’re thinking about becoming a musician, is the guitar right for you? As you keep reading, I’ll talk about how the guitar is the most versatile way of learning any song, a great brain teaser, and an all-access cool guy pass.

All of us tend to get a song stuck in our heads every once in a while, some more than others. Personally, I’ve had an interest in learning how to play a little guitar because once I’ve had a song stuck head for longer than just a few hours, I want to know how to play it. Maybe you’re the same way. If you are then maybe you might have an interest in playing guitar too. One of the coolest things about guitar is that just about any song you can think of can be played on it.

The thing is, some people believe you need to have a gift to play guitar however, that’s not true. Sure, some of the big names like Jimi Hendrix, or Van Halen, those guys just had it in their blood, but to play guitar that’s not necessary. All it truly takes is the determination and interest to do it frequently, daily is the best way to truly learn. Part of what makes the guitar so tough is that you have to build legitimate muscle memory, and your fingers need to become calloused to play effectively. Once you’re there and you’re understanding the basics, the guitar can be an incredibly fun skill to learn. The guitar is a gateway to creative freedom and allows your brain to be challenged in many ways with actually figuring out what notes can make what chord shapes and again muscle memory.

Besides having a brain teaser and having the ability to learn almost any song, there’s one thing that can’t be ignored as a guitar player. If you play guitar, you automatically have a skill that’s just cool. Anywhere you go that happens to have a guitar, you have the ability to start jamming, which most of the time grabs people’s attention. This is why so many guitar players decide to leave an acoustic guitar in the car with them. When the moment comes up and you can wow a few people with your skills of playing some songs, it’s a pretty cool feeling.
