Everyone knows how to use the internet by now, but not everyone knows how to protect themselves. A lot of us are at risk of, at the most extreme, identity theft.
It’s hard to protect yourself online if you don’t do any research. The internet is at the click of a button but privacy is a few clicks and some extra readings. Not a lot of us want to take the time to learn how to protect ourselves. Many of us refuse to acknowledge that we are at risk until their computer is overloaded with malware.
Here are a few simple steps in protecting yourself online:
– Use the existing accounts to create new ones. Use your Facebook account to create a Twitter account. This limits the amount of outlets you are reachable through for hackers.
– Make sure your email password is the strongest of all of your passwords. If you think about it, you use your email to have access to all of your accounts. A hacker could have access to everything with access to your email.
– Install anti-virus software to help protect against malware.
– Avoid filling out personal information on pubic devices/Wi-Fi.
I recommend beefing up your password for your email. The other two solutions are useless if someone gains access to your email account. Have you taken steps to protect your devices?
