falling during a presentation

Today’s topic is falling during a presentation. Sometimes when you are reporting, you trip and fall. It doesn’t happen too often, but people wonder how to react when it does happen and they worry they will be embarrassed.

If you fall during a presentation, and you’re not seriously hurt, just get back up and laugh it off and continue with the presentation. It may be hard to do, but try to not take it or yourself too seriously. However, if you are seriously hurt after a fall, let the other ones around you know and they will focus the camera on someone else and get you the help you need. Try not to be embarrassed; it happens to everyone.

What about you? Did you ever fall during a presentation? What happened? Were you seriously hurt or not? What did you do? Let me know in the comments.

presenting a news story

Today’s topic is how to present a news story. One of the most basic things you have to do in reporting is presenting a news story. Some people may not know how to go about reporting one. This is how to present a successful news story.

Before you start your presentation, read thru or rehearse thru what you are going to say and make sure you understand all of it, and the emotions it conveys. When you do the presentation, show the right emotions and look at the camera so your audience feels like you are looking at them, because you are addressing them. If it is a serious story, make sure you convey how serious it is. Be polite and to the point. It takes some practice as everything does, but soon you will be doing effective and successful presentations.

What about you? Have you ever presented a news story? What was it about? What did you do? Let me know in the comments.

rudeness during a presentation

Today’s topic is rudeness during a presentation. Sometimes when you are reporting a story, especially if it is one with controversy or that is dealing with someone doing something they shouldn’t do, they will not want to be interviewed or they won’t answer questions or they make themselves not available. This can be an issue because it can be awkward and some people don’t know what to do.

If someone is being rude during a presentation, make a mature comment to the audience, such as “as you can see this person is busy today,” or “this person has declined commenting.” It may be awkward for you, but just know that it isn’t your fault and you’re not doing anything wrong. Just continue on with the presentation, or they may go to another presentation. Don’t show that you’re upset with it because it is not to be taken personally.

What about you? Was someone ever rude during your presentation? What was the story about? What did the person do? What did you do? How did you feel? Let me know in the comments.

technical difficulties

Today’s topic is technical difficulties. Sometimes when you are in the middle of a presentation you have to stop the presentation or sometimes not even start it because of various technical difficulties. Some people wonder what to do when faced with this issue.

If your presentation is experiencing technical difficulties what you should do is explain to the camera that you are having issues and you will get to the presentation as soon as you are able to because you know how important it is for everyone. If the sound on your microphone is cut off, the camera will go back to another reporter who will explain the issues for you. It doesn’t mean you are a bad reporter. These things happen to everyone.

What about you? Did you ever experience technical difficulties or issues with a presentation? What went wrong? What did you do? Let me know in the comments.

inappropriate passersby

Today’s topic is inappropriate passersby. Usually, when you are doing a presentation, people will be walking in the background. Most of them will be polite and quietly walk out of sight of the camera, but sometimes you will come across the goofy ones who notice that they’re on camera and want to do something stupid or inappropriate. Sometimes they lift up their shirt, say a swear word, start yelling, or even try to interact with the one giving the presentation. This can obviously be an issue because you only have so much time for your presentation, and you may feel like it’s your fault, especially if they do something not suitable for younger people who may be watching the presentation.

If someone tries to do something stupid or inappropriate, the best thing to do is ignore them. They will hopefully see that no one is paying attention to them and walk away. If what they are doing is impossible to ignore, you can politely tell them to stop or make a mature comment that shows you are still the one in control of the situation, such as “The people here are obviously really excited today about ____”, whatever it is you are presenting. This is a really good mature and impressive way to show that those things don’t faze you and you are still in control of the situation even when those things happen. Also, don’t think it is your fault, because some people get goofy in front of the camera and it has nothing to do with you. Just show you are still the one in control of the situation and you will be fine.

What about you? Did someone ever inappropriately interrupt your presentation? What did they do? What were you talking about? What did you do? Let me know in the comments.
