Lamar Jackson is a 23 year old African American quarterback for the Baltimore Ravens. In college he won the Heisman Trophy for his outstanding play. Jackson was selected with the 32nd overall pick by the Ravens in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He began his rookie season as a backup, but became the team’s starting quarterback following an injury to starter Joe Flacco. Lamar Jackson winning MVP would be essential because he would become the youngest player in NFL history to win the award. Plus he would set the example for other younger African American players.
Before his domination this season he faced a lot of criticism in his short career. ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. maligned Jackson for inaccurate passing because his career completion percentage hovers around 57 percent. Football writer and former NFL scout Greg Gabriel dinged Jackson because, in his view, Jackson did not run a pro-style offense at Louisville. People across college football and the NFL stated Jackson wasn’t a quarterback but a running back. People also said he wasn’t a good enough passer. Which Jackson took as disrespect!
To prove his doubters wrong Jackson put up a season for the record books this year! He is the NFL touchdown leader. He holds the NFL record for most rushing yards ever. He broke Michael Vick record! He made his first Pro Bowl, made first team all pro, youngest quarterback with a perfect passing rating, and the youngest quarterback with a playoff start. He threw for over 3k passing yards, 36 touchdowns, and over 1,200 rushing yards. Not bad for a running back.
I believe Lamar Jackson will win MVP. He is the most dynamic player in the NFL. He’s so elusive and fast. He makes great reads and can beat you with his legs or his arm. He is so hard to tackle in the open field. Video game Madden NFL 20 has Lamar Jackson rated at 99 overall. That is the highest rating you can get on the video game. He also led his team to the best record in the NFL at 14-2. He has proved all his doubters wrong this season. He has shown that he is not just a runner but he can pass also. He has the best passing rating in the NFL this season at 81.9. That’s elite numbers!
Do you believe Lamar Jackson will win MVP? Do you think people doubted him as a passer because of his race? Do you think he can keep this level of dominance for the rest of his career? Please let me know what you think.
