Hello Haven partners,

Chloe, here, from the Haven Project! October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Domestic violence is a public health issue, where intimate partner violence accounts for 15% of all violent crimes (NCADV). It is our mission and responsibility to educate our students about the prevalence of this form of violence and provide them with strategies to create and sustain safer communities, free of violence.

I’m reaching out to inform you that we are providing a new program for students this month via Zoom! On Thursday, October 8th from 6:30-7:30pm and Monday, October 19th from 6-7pm, we will be educating students on different love styles and love languages, signs of healthy and unhealthy relationships, and issues surrounding domestic/dating violence. The program is called “What’s Love Got to Do with It” and will offer an interactive way to engage our students through game playing and in-depth discussions.

On Monday, October 26th from 7-8pm, we will hold a volunteer training for “It’s On Us” via Zoom. The training will educate students about the It’s On Us campaign that encourages us to be active bystanders in preventing violence. Attending the training will allow students to volunteer with us at our tables in Its On Us volunteer training2020[7164] What’s Love Got To Do With It_ Flyer[7163]November.

You can visit the Haven Project website at www.iup.edu/haven/ to learn more about the department and available resources. If you are interested in having us present one of our topics in your classroom via Zoom, please contact us at any time. We will offer our programs over Zoom for the duration of the fall semester.

Please feel free to contact us by phone (724-357-3947) or email (haven-project@iup.edu) if you should have any questions.
