On behalf of Multicultural Affairs & Student Success (MASS) and The Center for Multicultural Student Leadership and Engagement (MCSLE), you are invited to attend The Defamation Experience. It is a dramatic stage performance about a court case that will explore race, class, religion and gender and in the end the audience decides if the defendant is guilty or innocent. A large group discussion will then be facilitated by a member of the defamation team.
Considering the racial tensions occurring nationally and IUP’s current campus climate, this topic is more relevant than ever.
Attendance vouchers will be available to students. We respectfully request that faculty consider this event an educational opportunity and constructively use the vouchers to encourage students to attend.
The Defamation Experience is on October 3, 2017, at 7:00pm, in Gorell Recital Hall, located on the 2nd floor of Sutton Hall. Doors will open at 6:00pm.
Biology plans to offer South Africa study abroad travel course again in Summer, 2018. The course is BIOL 490 Biology of South African Wildlife. In addition to the students who enroll in the course, we usually have room for non-students who want to make the trip.
The itinerary will include Johannesburg, Kruger National Park, Swaziland, KwaZulu-Natal and the iSimangaliso Wetlands near St. Lucia on the Indian Ocean. You’ll have a chance to observe wild animals in their native habitat and to interact with people from a variety of cultures.
The class will travel in the early summer “pre-“ session from May 12-June 4, but it is possible to arrange other arrival/departure dates for non-students.
The url for the course web site is
http://www.people.iup.edu/luciano/AWSMAIN.htm and there are a lot of photos from 2017 on the Biology Department’s Facebook page.
If you are interested in traveling with the IUP group-please let Dr. Carl Luciano know. His email is firstname.lastname@example.org. The 2018 trip will be his eighth with IUP students, but he does not plan to lead any more trips after this one.
Every Thursday evening for the past seven years, Dr. Finegan has led meditation sessions at a yoga studio near campus. The sessions are free of charge, and the studio is an amazing place to learn to meditate and to develop the ability to work more effectively with your thoughts. Sunflower Yoga Studio is located at the corner of Philadelphia St. and 6th Street. The sessions are from 7pm – 8pm.
