Bunraku

Next Wednesday evening September 20, 7:00-8:30 pm in HSS 225, the Bunraku master Martin Holman will give a lecture and demonstration of Bunraku, a traditional form of Japanese puppetry. Bunraku puppets typically stand four feet tall and are manipulated by two or three puppeteers. The plots for the plays can be very complex, usually focusing on the intrigues and romances of samurai and courtesans. Mr. Holman was one of the first Americans to be trained in this art form. The Bunraku Bay Puppet Theater that he founded performs in top venues around the United States.

All are welcome to this demonstration. Vouchers will be available if students are coming as part of class activities.
