As
the spring term commences, please be reminded that Allegheny College will host a
two-day conference on “Global Citizenship” March 11-12, 2011.
Keynote
speakers include J. Baird Callicott (University of North Texas), Noelle McAfee
(George Mason University), Ladelle McWhorter (University of Richmond) and
Eduardo Mendieta (State University of New York at Stony Brook). The
presentations of these four eminent philosophers on March 11 will anchor the
undergraduate conference held all day March 12.
Undergraduate
students are invited to present their own work either in the form of complete
papers or as a part of panel discussions. Please encourage your students who
have completed term papers and projects related to this topic to submit their
work for consideration in the conference schedule.
The
deadline for submissions has been extended to February 4, 2011.
Detailed
information about the conference can be found at the conference
homepage. I invite you and your students to attend and participate in this
exciting opportunity for our region. The $25 registration fee includes lunches
and dinners on Friday and Saturday, including the conference banquet Saturday
evening. A limited number of free, one-night, double-occupancy accommodations
are available for presenters and will be allocated to the earliest accepted
submissions. Direct all inquiries and questions to Professors Eric Boynton or
Bill Bywater.
