October is Disability Awareness Month at IUP

To advance our commitment to increase awareness and promote independence, integration and inclusion of all people with disabilities at our university, the Office of Social Equity is sponsoring a special program entitled, “Expanding the Mainstream” on Wednesday, October 13, 2010 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. in the HUB-Ohio Room.  Representatives from campus, as well as from local agencies, will be on hand to disseminate information about their departments and programs and to answer any questions about the services they provide.

The keynote presentation by David Carson will begin at 2:30.  Mr. Carson, a motivational speaker who himself has overcome a learning disability, will share his personal story with us.  He will review the skills and coping strategies it takes for young adults with learning disabilities to succeed in college.  Mr. Carson is the author of “The Survival Guide for College-Bound LD Students,” a book used by 24 colleges and universities across the country.

Light refreshments will be provided.  This program is free and everyone is welcome!

If you have questions or would like additional information about the program, please contact Patti Krausslach at 724-357-3402 or email at patkraus@iup.edu.
