This week we will walk through the Cook Honors College concept of, requirements for, and resources for finding and selecting meaningful sustained community service while in college. This program is not just for HC merit award recipients. All freshman receiving merit scholarship from ANY IUP SOURCE are required to attend.
- How does community service differ from volunteerism, club involvement, performance, or activities?
- Why is sustained, meaningful community service an important aspect of my college experience?
- What resources exist that can aid me in my search for sustained, meaningful service?
Assignment: Attend the IUP Community Involvement Fair on Saturday, September 18 in the Delaney/Putt Commons from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Submit a list of at least three organizations/agencies you interacted with, providing responses to the following questions:
- Do I find the goals and work of this organization meaningful?
- Can I commit to this organization in a sustained way over time?
- What skill sets will this organization provide me that are important to my development or career interests?
