About Sundress Publications
Sundress Publications is an entirely volunteer-run 501(c)3 nonprofit publishing collective founded in 2000 that hosts a variety of online journals and publishes chapbooks, full-length collections, and literary anthologies in both print and digital formats. Sundress also publishes the annual Best of the Net Anthology, celebrating the best work published online, and the Gone Dark Archives, preserving online journals that have reached the end of their run.

About the Internship
The editorial internship position will run from January to May, 2017 with a chance to be renewed for summer. The editorial intern’s responsibilities can include writing press releases, composing blogs, proofreading manuscripts, helping to run social media sites (Facebook, WordPress, etc.), collating editorial data, and more. The intern may also be responsible for assisting with researching grant opportunities, writing copy, conducting interviews with Sundress authors, and promoting our catalog of titles.

While this is an unpaid internship, all interns will gain real-world experience in the ins and outs of independent publishing with a nationally recognized press while creating a portfolio of work for future employment opportunities. Interns will also be able to attend all workshops at the Sundress Academy for the Arts at cost.

Preferred qualifications

  • A keen eye for proof-reading
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Knowledge of contemporary literature a plus

Dzanc Books Marketing Internship

Qualifications/Expectations

  •  A commitment to work fifteen to twenty-five hours per week.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented individual with excellent written, verbal, and organizational skills.
  • Skill in coordinating and completing both special projects, and routine tasks.

Duties

  • Assisting with promoting nation-wide events.
  • Assisting with tracking, formatting and archiving of book reviews and other media.
  • Assisting with on-line promotional initiatives.
  • Assisting in the production of advertisements, press releases, and promotional materials.
  • Assisting with mailings to media, consumers, booksellers, and other contacts.
  • Working with Marketing Director to track revenue and research additional sales outlets.

Public Service Fellows Internship Program

Compensation
Fellows receive the following compensation:

  • Full time fellows with an undergraduate or graduate degree will receive $1000 per month
  • Full time fellows who are currently undergraduate students will receive $800 per month

Pittsburgh Film Office Internship

Eligibility
Must be majoring in Business, Marketing, Communications, Film Studies, Public Relations, Arts Management, English/Journalism, Media Arts, Government Affairs, and/or Computer/Information Science

Primary function
To provide administrative support for non-profit economic development agency promoting the Southwestern PA region to the film industry

Skills
Computer literacy, organizational capabilities, initiative, telephone experience

Duties

  • Field incoming phone calls.
  • Follow-through with requests for information on Pittsburgh.
  • Scan digital photos and assist in maintenance of location photograph filing system.
  • Read daily newspapers and trade magazines for articles for clipping report, PFO board books, and assist in development calls to production companies.
  • Make deliveries to production offices, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including assistance with fundraising events.

Project
Each intern will work together with Film Office staff to determine an individual project to be completed upon the end of the term. Interns will have time during internship hours to complete the project.  Some examples of past projects are: design door-hanger brochure to be distributed throughout communities in which filming is taking place; design of the marketing packet, complete a 15 city/four year comparison on the film industry, web site development, surveys of production industry, develop silent auction for fundraising event, etc.

Schedule
To be determined by intern coordinator, looking for a minimum of 12-15 hours per week for a minimum of three months. Negotiable.

Film Studies Intern

Duties
The Film Studies Intern will undertake the following writing-intensive tasks:

  • Solicit film-showing suggestions from undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Schedule, promote, and create attendance vouchers for these film showings
  • Identify and promote film showings from other instructors and programs around campus.
  • Help schedule and find funding (internal and external) for bringing guest artists and speakers to campus.
  • Promote English department film studies courses.
  • Improve and maintain a film, tv, video game blog.
  • Promote/solicit reader response to blog.

Communications Officer, Indiana County Football Club

Duties
Intern will serve as Communications Officer for Indiana County Football Club, a local soccer organization whose mission is to develop, support, and promote organized soccer and to foster local soccer culture for players and coaches of all ages in the Indiana County community. The intern will engage in a variety of activities throughout the semester, including:

  • Creating and serving a Editor in Chief of an ICFC newsletter (including reporting, writing, editing, and layout)
  • Researching and writing press releases on ICFC activities
  • Writing and updating website content
  • Writing and designing various promotional materials, camp brochures, etc.
  • Social media content creation and curation
  • Participation in ICFC board meetings
  • Attendance at ICFC events
