How does one build their resume? It is ideal to build a resume that is in relation to your ideal job. This will help increase your chances of getting your desired position. I have recently decided to except a position at Nextier bank as a full time teller. This will help me in the steps I need to take to get my desired position at IUP’s Payroll office. What do you do if you have too low of a GPA to get into your desired graduate program? This could be solved with 100 level courses in order to increase your GPA. For myself, I plan to take more 100 level courses and redo any of the classes that I did not do as well on. Also, It would be helpful to speak to an adviser of your desired program in order to get an idea of what classes to take that would help you the most in the long run. It is best when taking steps towards your goal to get help from those qualified. I plan to take all the help that I can get when preparing my graduate school application. I have taken the GMAT exam before and fell 100 points shy of Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s masters of business administration requirements. As I mentioned in the article before I am going to practice with the exam prep books I have purchased. I know that the exam can take multiple times in order to receive your desired score. This may be a challenge for some, myself included, that the GMAT exam is $250 each time you take it. This could be avoided with the test prep course that I mentioned before. I will strongly consider the prep course if I feel that I am not properly prepared. How long did it take you to prepare for the exam and did you find the exam difficult? After finishing my undergraduate degree, I must then prepare for graduate school. I know now that there is a good chance I will not meet the GPA requirements for the graduate program I wish to enroll in. Many graduate programs have different expectations for their students, this could be difficult for some students to achieve. You must have a certain GMAT score, a certain GPA, and an essay. To succeed in meeting these requirements after graduating with your undergraduate degree you could take a GMAT prep course and/or purchase practice books, take more undergraduate courses to help increase your GPA, and spend a decent amount of time writing your essay, and maybe even asking a former professor to review it before submission. I will be taking practice GMAT tests and reviewing GMAT practice books that I have purchased in order to prepare myself for the exam. I will also take entry level business related courses in order to increase my GPA, and I will ask a peer and a former professor to review my essay before I submit it to the graduate school. It is difficult to find a position in the business field that will work with a student, and will take someone at an entry level. This difficulty could come from lack of experience in the field, or the lack of flexibility in a student’s schedule. A solution to this problem could be to ask different places if they offer internships, that way it is a job that is made for a student in order to get their foot in the door with a certain business. Another solution could be to ask round with different family members, friends, or acquaintances if they know of any positions in the business field that will hire someone with little to no experience. I decided to ask around with different friends and family for positions that fit this description. I was directed to a teller position at Nextier bank in my area. I decided to submit an application and received and interview. In this interview, I was told that I met the qualifications for the position. I have yet to hear back from Nextier, but I hope to later incorporate the position in the steps to finding my career path. How did you find your career path? After I finish my degree this summer, I plan to take a semester off. I plan to get my masters in business administration, but the uncertainty that follows that degree is what scares me into taking the time off. It is difficult to find interests in such a broad field, and to make sure the interests you have are right for you. To make sure you find what is the correct choice for you, you must find your interests, and test the waters in different positions of different companies. I have decided to use my semester off to build my resume in the business field. I will be applying to different positions in my area in order to find my interests. I might even find a different career path that I love more than the thought of going back to Indiana University’s payroll office. Finishing a degree can be a challenge for anyone that starts at a college. A person could face major life changes all while trying to focus on their end goal of getting their degree. A move from one house to another, an illness in the family, or the birth of a child can all cause a distraction while trying to earn a degree. How does one push through this in order to meet their goal, you might ask? Determination, focus, and time. I am determined to finish my degree. I have to take the time to focus on my studies, and make my courses my number one priority. I cannot let my challenges of moving into my own house away from my parents and taking care of my little family completely distract me from finishing my degree. I am 21 years old and I am currently trying to figure out what I want to do with my life. I would like to go to graduate school for my masters in business administration, but decided to take a semester off.
