Hello! My name is Katie McKernan and I am a senior at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania studying for my Bachelor of Science degree in Communications Media.
My initial experience in the “real world” occurred in the summer after my sophomore year of high school when I excepted my first internship position at The RJM group in New York City. Since then, I have held two internship positions and multiple part-time jobs.
Growing up in a suburb of Philadelphia, I have always been interested in the fast-paced environment of cities. This led to my first real-life choice: continuing my post-community-college experience at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. At FIT, I studied Advertising and Marketing, and was afforded the opportunity to have a few big city jobs including a six-month internship at Lipton Publicity, a small but involved fashion-oriented publicity company. Half way through my junior year I made the decision to transfer to a school in my home state of Pennsylvania. I began my studies at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania in January of 2016. The courses I have been able to take at IUP have been very beneficial in helping me decide what I would like to pursue as a career.
This summer, I am working at SEI Investments in Oaks, Pennsylvania as a marketing intern prior to my graduation from IUP in August. During this internship I hope to build upon my current skills as well as acquire new skills that will help me in my pursuit of a career in marketing.
