Makeup in the Work Place

Hello everyone and Happy almost 4th of July!

Today I wanted to bring up the topic of professional makeup. By the age of 22, I find that most of my female friends have their makeup routine down and they only stray from the norm on special occasions. But since being in a place of work, I realize not everyone in every age group adheres to the same “norm”.

How do we know what is too much, too bright, or maybe not enough?

Makeup is a very personal thing to us ladies, but there are some rules that typically apply in most corporate environments.

  1. Keep is simple. Bright orange lipstick or electric green eyeliner may not be the best idea when trying to be taken seriously at work. You’d think this would be common sense but surprisingly it isn’t always. This can be distracting to your coworkers, and they might be so caught up in your wild makeup that they don’t hear your brilliant ideas.
  2. The work day is long. With a typical 8 hour day, there’s bound to be some wear-off throughout the day. Make sure you aren’t wearing so much makeup that it’s melting off your face by 5pm. Not a good look for anyone!
  3. Cover up. I hate to say this, but putting your best face forward is important. Looking tired or unkempt can also lead to not being taken seriously. Put your best face forward, you owe it to yourself!
