Off the shoulder- Do’s and Don’ts

Happy Friday- we made it!

Finally.

So today I want to tackle a recent trend in clothing for women: Off the shoulder. Be it dresses or tops, most stores are selling some version of this trend on their racks, in a variety of different ways. That brings us to the question: are off the shoulder pieces appropriate for the work place?

My answer? Yes, but also no.

Why I say “yes”: off the shoulder tops and dresses sometimes have normal straps with just a shoulder cutout. So yes, those are appropriate as long as the strap thickness coincides with you place of work’s dress code. Also I would say yes if the off the shoulder part of the top/ dress can be pulled up over the shoulders to give more of a boat-neck affect to the garment.

Why I say “no”: Completely off the shoulder is probably not appropriate for the work place. Granted, this depends on where you work, but in a business casual environment, I would say it’s a hard no. Save those dresses and tops that expose that much for the weekends/ after work functions.

Are you allowed to wear off the shoulder clothing in your place of work?
