Once you have at least part of your script done you can start the editing process. Now what I do i use Premiere Pro, as long as you have a non linear editing software you can follow along. If you have a clip, Preferably HD/HQ, you can drag it in and the software will automatically create a resolution based on the clips properties, then you can add in your music track. Now here’s where it all begins, there’s no easy way to describe it but once you’re in the program you just do what you want really, I usually edit in sections, I maybe do a verse, or a fourth of the song and work in breaks, Once i have that section of the clips in place, I usually go back and do some more trimming if needed, add some effects and transitions and whatnot. I recommend to save CONSTANTLY because you never know what might happen, then I just go through and do the same thing for the whole song. If you want to make a really eye-popping AMV, you need to take a lot of time on it, my most recent one took me about 2 months to complete and the one before that 4 months, Don’t be afraid to take your time and wait, Chances are most good videos have taken a lot of time to compete, unless of course they worked on it nonstop.

Typically I don’t usually make a script because I’ve thought out the entire video in advance but sometimes when I want a certain video to be well made, I make a script so I can track what I’ve done if I take a break, and to make sure I have everything I need so the editing process can go smoother. Bit of a short tip today! However you do not need a script, having one makes your life 10x easier!

A big part of successful music videos is timing. And that applies to AMVs as well. If you want an AMV to do well you’re gonna have to get timing down. A lot of AMVs don’t have timing and it doesn’t add as much emotion to the video, weather that be action, sadness, drama, etc. What most people do, and what I recommend is to use the beats in order to time your video. For every beat you hear, have a clip start and stop at every beat and you can even go one step further and have the clips in whatever sequence you want. You could be going in order of episodes or tell your own story that matches with the song. I’ve done both these examples and they turned out very well. The tedious part is going through the episodes and finding that certain timestamp you need. Which brings me to my next point, making a script.

So, one of the main things about what I do right now is getting the actual audio and video that ill be using. Most AMVs out there you’ll see are low quality or they will have subtitles. Usually when you see a music video its in high quality and there aren’t any sub text. I’ve found a reliable source to get my clips in HQ and no text so it’ll be the best possible quality. Now finding the music is pretty much the biggest step. Once you’ve chosen a show or movie, you wont be using any audio form the actual video, all the audio will be from the one music track. Personally what I like to do is find a song that would fit the clips, or find one that fits the clips but also; the lyrics relate to the clips. So once you have the song and clips you prefer you can move on to the next step.

This is the first real blog, and I’m here to talk about what I do really. Right now I’m mainly focusing on digital video editing as that’s what I want to do as a career. Video editing is fun but at the same time, if you want to strive and stand out you need to put in all your effort and cant half-ass anything. If you don’t try you’ll get looked over and you’ll regret it. I make some music videos every now and then, mainly anime music videos (AMVs) and most of them out there are just clips over a song and while that’s considered an AMV, there’s no effort to make it stand out or make it appealing. I always try and go above and beyond with the ones I’ve made thus far. My YouTube channel (linked on my main blog page) has some examples of the videos I make currently but I’m always looking to improve and get even better
