(4) Ohio State 52, Northwestern 3

The Buckeyes were 27 point favorites coming into their matchup against Northwestern on Friday night, and they would almost double this margin with a 49 point victory. Ohio State would put up 7 touchdowns total, with 4 being aired out by star QB Justin Fields (and one by backup QB Chris Chugunov) and 2 on the ground by running backs J.K. Dobbins and Master Teague III. Fields gave his squad the early lead with a 20-yard touchdown pass to WR Chris Olave, and Northwestern got their only points in the first quarter off of a 33-yard field goal by kicker Chris Kuhbander. Dobbins would have a 19-yard touchdown reception and a 5-yard touchdown run in the second team to push Ohio State’s lead to 21-3. Olave would have his second touchdown reception of the day in the second quarter, and this combined with a 55-yard field goal by kicker Blake Haubeil would give the Buckeyes a 31-3 lead at the end of the first half. And they would never take their foot off the gas, with Fields connecting WR Austin Mack for a 23-yard touchdown pass for the lone scoring play in the 3rd quarter. Chugunov would get in the highlight reel in the 4th quarter with a 7-yard touchdown pass to TE Jeremy Ruckert, but Teague III would close out the game with a bang after exploding for a 73-yard touchdown run. Ohio State would finish with 201 receiving yards and 279 rushing yards in their rout. But what shouldn’t go unnoticed is an impressive performance by the defense which held the Wildcats to only 42 receiving yards while forcing 1 fumble and 2 interceptions.

(2) LSU 36, Mississippi State 13

Joe Burrow set yet another record in LSU’s victory over MSST as he continues to put together an impressive Heisman resume. With his 4 touchdowns in this game that add to his now total of 29, Burrow broke LSU’s season record for most touchdowns in a season. The Tigers’ had a slow start, going up 9-0 in the second quarter after 3 short field goals by kicker Cade York, and a 12-yard touchdown run by Bulldogs QB would cut their lead to 9-7. But Joe Burrow would answer with a 60-yard touchdown pass to WR Racey McCath and an 8-yard touchdown pass to WR Ja’Marr Chase to close out the first half with LSU on top 22-7. Burrow would connect for six two more times, both being in the third quarter. Burrow would hit WR Derrick Dillon for a 37-yard touchdown pass and would close out another stellar performance with an 18-yard touchdown pass to WR Justin Jefferson. The Bulldogs would have a 24-yard touchdown reception by WR Stephen Guidry with less than a minute to go in the fourth quarter, but that would be nowhere near enough to stop a red hot LSU team.

(3) Clemson 45, Louisville 10

Trevor Lawrence would throw two interceptions before he would throw any touchdowns in a messy game against Louisville. The Tigers would have the lead at the end of the first quarter after a 51-yard field goal by B.T. Porter. Lawrence would finally get his team in the endzone with a 6-yard touchdown pass to WR Joe Ngata which would put Clemson up 10-0. Louisville would make it a one-score game at 10-3 with a 28-yard field goal by kicker Blanton Creque. But Lawrence would find his groove and connect with WR Justyn Ross for a 25-yard touchdown reception to put Clemson up 17-3 at the end of the first half. The only scoring play in the third quarter would come from a 49-yard touchdown run by RB Travis Etienne, giving the Tigers a comfortable 24-3 lead going into the 4th quarter. Lawrence would have his third and final touchdown pass of the day with a 10-yard reception by WR Cornell Powell, and two more rushing touchdowns (one by RB Darien Rencher for 8 yards and one by RB Chez Mellusi for 16 yards) would help Clemson cruise to victory after a messy start.

West Virginia 14, (5) Oklahoma 52

Heisman candidate Jalen Hurts put together another impressive performance in a blowout victory against West Virginia. Hurts went 16 for 17 with 316 yards and 3 touchdowns along with 75 rushing yards on 10 carries with 2 touchdowns. Oklahoma went up early with a 14-0 lead at the end of the first quarter after a 20-yard touchdown reception by FB Jeremiah Hall and a 6-yard touchdown reception by WR Charleston Rambo. The Mountaineers would cut their deficit in half at 14-7 in the second quarter after a 38-yard touchdown pass from QB Austin Kendall to WR T.J. Simmons. But the Sooners would pad their lead with a 9-yard touchdown run by RB Kennedy Brooks and a 2-yard touchdown run by Hurts. A 7-yard touchdown reception by Simmons with 20 seconds to go in the second quarter would put WVU down 28-14 at the end of the first half. The second half of this game would be all Oklahoma. The third quarter would start with a 22-yard touchdown run by Hurts, who would then later connect with WR Lee Morris for a 46-yard touchdown pass. A blocked punt return by TE Austin Stogner would give the Sooners a 49-14 lead at the end of the third quarter. A 29-yard field goal by kicker Gabe Brkic would close out the Sooners rout of WVU to help them stay undefeated.

Kentucky 0, (10) Georgia 21

Georgia was looking for redemption after last week’s upset to South Carolina, and those hopes looked dismal after they found themselves in a scoreless tie at halftime. Running back D’Andre Swift would finally get the Bulldogs on the board with a 39-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. Georgia would stick to their run game with an 8-yard touchdown run by RB Brian Herrien which would put them up 14-0 in the third quarter. Swift would have his second touchdown in the fourth quarter with a 3-yard run for Georgia’s last scoring drive of the game. This game was messy all around. Kentucky QB Lynn Bowden Jr. would go 2 for 15 with 17 yards, and Georgia QB Jake Fromm would go 9 for 12 with 35 yards. Both teams would rely on their run game with the Wildcats putting up 160 combined rushing yards and the Bulldogs putting up 235 combined rushing yards. Swift is easily the MVP of this game with his 179 rushing yards on 21 carries with 2 touchdowns as Georgia gets back in the win column.

(6) Wisconsin 23, Illinois 24

The biggest upset of the season this far would belong to Illinois, who came into this game as 30 point underdogs. The Badgers would have a 10-0 lead in the second quarter after an 18-yard touchdown reception by TE Jake Ferguson and a 24-yard field goal by kicker Collin Larsh. Illinois would get on the board with a 48-yard touchdown pass by QB Brandon Peters to put them within 3 at 10-7. A 44-yard field goal by Larsh would give the Badgers a 13-7 advantage at the end of the first half. Wisconsin would begin to distance themselves with a 5-yard touchdown run by RB Jonathan Taylor in the 3rd quarter to put them up 20-7, but the Fighting Illini would answer with a 43-yard touchdown run by RB Reggie Corbin. Larsh would have a 20-yard field goal in the 4th quarter, but that’s all they’d be able to muster. Wide Receiver Josh Imatorbhebhe would haul in a 29-yard touchdown pass to put Illinois within 2, and kicker James McCourt would seal the deal with a 39-yard field as time expired. Wisconsin was handed their first loss of the season at 6-1 as they head to Ohio to battle the undefeated Buckeyes next weekend.

(9) Florida 38, South Carolina 27

Flordia snuck away from being upset by South Carolina after being tied at 17 late in the game. A 1-yard touchdown run by RB Mon Denson would give the Gamecocks a 7-3 lead at the end of the first quarter. Florida would tie the game at 10 in the second quarter after Kyle Trask found WR Jacob Copeland for a 37-yard touchdown pass. South Carolina would jump out with the lead again in the third quarter after a 21-yard touchdown run RB Tavien Feaster, but the Gators would answer with an explosive 75-yard touchdown run by RB Dameon Pierce to tie the game at 17. A 31-yard field goal by kicker Parker White would give South Carolina a 20-17 lead at the end of the 3rd quarter. Florida would open the flood gates in the fourth quarter with 3 touchdown passes by Trask (Swain for 25 yards, Pitts for 5 yards, and Grimes for 5 yards). This late-game push would help Florida avoid upset and improve to 7-1.

(11) Auburn 51, Arkansas 10

Auburn rolled right past Arkansas to stay in the win column at 6-1. The Tigers built a big lead early with two rushing touchdowns (4-yards by QB Bo Nix and 6-yards by RB Shaun Shivers) and a 44-yard field goal by kicker Anders Carlson, giving them a 17-0 advantage at the end of the first quarter.  Nix would connect twice in the third quarter, once with WR Seth Williams for 48-yards and once with WR Anthony Schwartz for 28-yards. Arkansas would only put up a 28-yard field goal by kicker Connor Limpert and a 45-yard touchdown reception by TE Cheyenne O’Grady in the third, putting them down 31-10 to begin the fourth quarter. Nix would connect with Williams again in the fourth quarter for 15-yards, and backup QB Joey Gatewood would step in and connect with RB Jay Jay Wilson for a 17-yard touchdown. A 32-yard touchdown run by RB Harold Joiner would complete the victory for Auburn as they head into Death Valley to take on an elite LSU team.

(23) Iowa 26, Purdue 20

Iowa would be able to hold off a comeback attempt by Purdue to help them improve to 5-2. 3 30+yard field goals by kicker Keith Duncan would put the Hawkeyes up 9-0 in the second quarter. Purdue would cut their deficit to 2 at 9-7 with a 7-yard touchdown pass by QB Jack Plummer to WR David Bell with just over 30 seconds to go in the second quarter. Iowa would have the lone scoring play in the third quarter with a 1-yard touchdown run by RB Tyler Goodson. A 38-yard field goal by Duncan would push Iowa’s lead to 11 at 19-7, but two field goals by kicker J.D. Dellinger would put the Boilermakers within 6 at 19-13. A 14-yard touchdown run by RB Mekhi Sargent with just over two minutes to go would lock up the win for Iowa, despite a late touchdown pass by Plummer in the final 30 seconds. Despite 327 yards from Plummer, the Iowa defense would hold Purdue to just 33 combined rushing yards.

(12) Oregon 35, (25) Washington 31

Oregon rallied back against Washington for their 6th straight victory since losing to Auburn in week 1. A 12-yard touchdown pass by QB Justin Herbert and a 9-yard rushing touchdown by RB Salvon Ahmed would have the game tied at 7 at the end of the first quarter. Huskies QB Jacob Eason would connect with WR Jordan Chin for a 48-yard touchdown reception to give Washington their first lead of the game. Oregon would answer with a 16-yard touchdown reception by WR Jaylon Redd to tie the game, but Washington would have the 21-14 advantage at the end of the first half with a 5-yard touchdown catch by WR Andre Baccellia. Washington would make it a 2 score game in the third quarter a 28-14 when Eason threw a 33-yard touchdown pass to WR Puka Nacua. The Ducks would try to eat into their deficit with a 14-yard touchdown run by RB Cyrus Habibi-Likio, but the Huskies would push their lead back to double digits at 31-21 after a 30-yard field goal by kicker Peyton Henry. It was a 3 point game at 31-28 after WR Mycah Pittman hauled in a 36-yard touchdown as time expired in the third quarter. Oregon would have the only scoring play in the fourth quarter with a 5-yard touchdown reception by Redd which would be enough for the Ducks to complete the comeback and keep their streak alive.

Temple 21, (19) SMU 45

SMU put up a whopping 655 total offensive yards in their win over Temple. Quarterback Shane Buechele would flex his muscles early after throwing a 75-yard touchdown pass to WR Reggie Roberson in the second quarter, putting the Mustangs up 17-0. Temple would get on the board with a 1-yard touchdown run by RB Re’Mahn Davis, but a 10-yard touchdown catch by WR James Proche would give SMU a 24-7 lead at the end of the first half. Temple QB Anthony Russo would connect with WR Branden Mack for a 25-yard touchdown to put the Owls within 10. But the Mustangs wouldn’t let the Owls get close as they extended their lead at 31-14 with a 10-yard touchdown reception by TE Kylen Granson. Temple would only be able to muster a 1-yard touchdown run by Russo in the fourth quarter and that would be nowhere near enough to take down the still undefeated SMU Mustangs.

(20) Minnesota 42, Rutgers 7

Minnesota remains as one of the ten undefeated teams left with their rout of Rutgers. Running back Rodney Smith finished with 2 touchdowns (one for 3 yards and one for 16) and 111 yards on 19 carries to contribute to Minnesota’s 443 total offensive yards. The Golden Gophers spread their scoring around with 3 rushing touchdowns (2 by Smith, 1 by RB Mohamed Ibrahim for 6 yards), two touchdown passes by QB Tanner Morgan (one to WR Rashod Bateman for 13 yards and one to WR Tyler Johnson for 56-yards), and a 33-yard interception return by DB Antoine Winfield Jr. Rutgers QB Johnny Langan would have a dismal performance, going 9 for 19 with 48 yards and 3 interceptions, and the only scoring play for the Scarlet Knights would come from a 5-yard touchdown run by RB Kay’Ron Adams.

Tulsa 13, Cincinnati 24

The Bearcats improve to 6-1after holding off a comeback attempt by Tulsa. A 50-yard field goal by kicker Cole Smith and a 4-yard touchdown run by RB Gerrid Doaks would put Cincinnati up 10-0 at the end of the first quarter. Tulsa would get within 3 at 10-7 in the second quarter after RB T.K. Wilkerson. Cincinnati would extend their lead in the third quarter with a 28-yard touchdown pass by QB Desmond Ridder to Doaks, but the Golden Hurricane’s would keep themselves close at 17-10 with a 24-yard field goal by kicker Jacob Rainey. Rainey would put Tulsa even closer at 17-13 with a 21-yard field goal in the fourth quarter, but a 27-yard touchdown run by Doaks would seal the victory for Cincinnati and halt Tulsa’s comeback hopes.

UL Monroe 7, (24) Appalachian State 52

UL Monroe would have the first lead of the game after a 1-yard touchdown run by RB Kayin White, but that would be the last time the Warhawks would be anywhere near the lead. Running back Darrynton Evans would explode for a 59-yard touchdown run to tie the game. A 6-yard touchdown reception by WR Thomas Hennigan and a 1-yard touchdown run by QB Zac Thomas would put Appalachian State up 21-7 at the end of the first quarter. Thomas would connect two more times in the second half (once to Evans for 15 yards and once to TE Collin Reed for 1-yard), have one more rushing touchdown (RB Marcus Williams Jr. for 1-yard), and backup QB Jacob Huesman would finish it off with a 56-yard touchdown pass to WR Jalen Virgil. The Mountaineers would finish with 572 total offensive yards while their defense would force 3 fumbles and 2 interceptions.

(18) Baylor 45, Oklahoma State 27

Baylor continued their 9-game winning streak in a comeback win that almost became a blowout over OKST. Baylor went up first with a 25-yard touchdown run by RB John Lovett, but OKST would answer with a 5-yard touchdown pass by QB Spencer Sanders. Running back Chuba Hubbard would put the Cowboys up 13-7 with a 2-yard touchdown run, giving them their first lead of the day. Baylor would find themselves down 3 at 13-10 when the first half ended, desperate to get their offense going. Hubbard would make this difficult for the Bears after his second touchdown of the day in the third quarter, giving OKST a 20-10 lead. But this lead would be quickly erased after a 5-yard rushing touchdown by RB JaMycal Hasty and a 64-yard touchdown pass from QB Charlie Brewer to WR Josh Fleeks, giving Baylor a 24-20 lead heading into the 4th quarter. OKST would be back on top 27-24 after a 68-yard touchdown run by RB LD Brown. A 2-yard touchdown run by Brewer, a 20-yard fumble return by LB Terrel Bernard, and a 73-yard touchdown run by Hasty in the fourth quarter would give Baylor the lead and then some to help them stay undefeated at 7-0.

(22) Missouri 14, Vanderbilt 21

After a scoreless first quarter, Vandy got on the board first with a 1-yard touchdown run by RB Ke’Shawn Vaughn, but Missouri would quickly tie it at 7 after a 5-yard touchdown pass by QB Kelly Bryant. Vaughn would haul in a 61-yard touchdown pass from QB Mo Hasan to give the Commodores a 14-7 lead at the end of the 1st half. Miz would tie the game at 14 within the final two minutes of the third quarter after a 6-yard touchdown run by RB Larry Rountree III, but Vandy’s backup QB would steal the show in the 4th quarter with a 21-yard touchdown pass to WR Cam Johnson to seal the upset. Each team put together similar stats when it comes to offensive yards, with Missouri putting up 293 combined offensive yards and Vanderbilt putting up 315, and those 22 extra yards made all the difference.

(17) Arizona State 3, (13) Utah 21

A poor game all around for ASU (with the exception of RB Eno Benjamin and his 104 yards on 15 carries), led to an easy victory for Utah. The Utes stuck to their run game in their win, with all of their scoring plays coming from rushing touchdowns. Wide receiver Jaylen Dixon got Utah on the board with a 10-yard touchdown run early on in the first quarter. A 1-yard touchdown run by RB Zack Moss with just over 1 minute to go in the first quarter would be the last scoring play in the first half, giving the Utes a 14-0 advantage. A 40-yard field goal in the third quarter by kicker Christian Zendejas would be all the scoring the Sun Devils would be able to muster, and it would not be enough to overcome Utah’s 151 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns, including a 32-yard run by Moss in the fourth quarter. Utah continues to impress as they now sit at 6-1 and the surprisingly hot Sun Devils went cold on the road and fall to 5-2.

Tennessee 13, (1) Alabama 35

Despite losing star QB and Heisman candidate Tua Tagovailoa in the second quarter, the Crimson Tide were able to easily handle the struggling Tennessee Vols. Tagovailoa wouldn’t throw a touchdown pass before his exit, (but he would go 11 for 12 with 155 yards and 1 interception), but 3 rushing touchdowns in the first half (two 1-yard runs by RB Najee Harris and one 9-yard run by RB Brian Robinson Jr.), would give Alabama a 21-10 lead. Tennessee QB Brian Maurer would have a 2-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, but after that, the Vols would only be able to answer a surging Alabama offense with 2 field goals by kicker Brent Cimaglia. Backup QB Slade Bolden would find TE Miller Forristall for a 6-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter to extend their lead to 28-13. Alabama would add salt to the wound with a 100-yard fumble return in the fourth quarter by DB Trevon Diggs and stay undefeated at 7-0.

Kansas 48, (15) Texas 50

The Longhorns were able to survive a battle against Kansas and sneak away with the victory. Texas QB Sam Ehlinger put on an impressive performance to help carry his team, going 31 for 44 with 399 yards, 4 touchdowns, and 1 interception. Roschon Johnson got Texas on the board first with a 14-yard touchdown run, and Ehlinger would pad that lead to 14-0 with a 10-yard touchdown pass to WR Jake Smith. Kansas would answer with a 23-yard field goal by kicker Liam Jones in the 1st quarter, a 7-yard touchdown run by RB Pook Williams Jr., and a 7-yard touchdown pass by QB Carter Stanley to WR Takulve Williams to take a 17-14 lead. The Longhorns would have a 21-17 lead at the end of the first half after a 5-yard touchdown reception by WR Brennan Eagles, but Kansas wasn’t done yet. The Jayhawks would take the lead back at 24-21 in the third quarter with a 9-yard touchdown reception by WR Stephon Robinson, and kicker Cameron Dicker would tie the game at 24 heading into the 4th quarter with a 39-yard field goal. An explosive back-and-forth fourth quarter battle would come down to when the clock hit triple 0. Two touchdown receptions by WR Devin Duvernay, a safety by DB D’Shawn Jamison, and a 3-yard touchdown run by RB Keaontay Ingram in one quarter would still not be enough. Williams had another rushing touchdown, Robinson Jr. and WR Andrew Parchment each had a touchdown reception and Jones would have another field goal to help their cause, but they would come up just short. A 33-yard field goal by Dicker as time expired would give Texas a hard-fought victory.

(16) Michigan 21, (7) Penn State 28

A much-anticipated matchup began to show signs of a blowout in the first half after Penn State jumped out to a quick 21-0 lead after a rough start for Michigan. Penn State QB Sean Clifford would connect twice in the first half, (once with TE Pat Freiermuth for 17 yards and once with WR KJ Hamler for 53 yards), and he would have a 2-yard rushing touchdown in the first quarter to put his squad up early. Running back Zach Charbonnet would help Michigan avoid being shutout in the first half after a 12-yard touchdown run towards the end of the second quarter. Charbonnet would find the endzone again for another rushing touchdown (also 12 yards) for the lone scoring play in the 3rd quarter. A 53-yard touchdown reception hauled in by Hamler would pretty much seal the win for the Nittany Lions, despite a 1-yard touchdown run by QB Shea Patterson. Penn State remains undefeated as they look to climb the rankings.

(14) Boise State 25, BYU 28

BYU would edge past an undefeated BSU team on Saturday night. The Broncos would have a 10-7 advantage at the end of the first half after a 12-yard touchdown run by WR CT Thomas and a 38-yard field goal by kicker Eric Sachse. BYU would own the 3rd quarter, taking the lead with a 46-yard touchdown run by RB Sione Finau. Cougars QB Baylor Romney would connect for two touchdowns with TE Matt Bushman (one for 27-yards and one for 39-yards) to give BYU a surprising 28-10 lead at the end of the third quarter. Despite being held scoreless in the fourth and giving up two BSU touchdowns, BYU was able to sneak away with the win and hand the Broncos their first loss of the season.
