Step 1: Create a New document

The first thing you’ll need to do is create a free pic monkey account. Once you’ve done that, you’re ready to get started. After you log in click on create new and then hit blank canvas scroll down to Instagram portrait size. 

 

Step 2: Erase The background 

First, you must upload the image you want to use by going to upload an image. After the image is uploaded resize it and click on the eraser button to start erasing the background of the image

 

Step 3: Adding Text

Click on the text icon on the left-hand side and select add text. A box will pop up with all the text settings which allows you to change the font, size, and color. To upload your own fonts to Picmonkey go to dafont.com to download fonts for free. Click on add text and select the first box at the top then select the upload fonts button. Select choose fonts and upload the font you want to use.

 

Step 4: Uploading Fonts

To change the color of the text, click on the circle and move the mouse until you find the color you want. If you want a specific color, click on the eye drop tool and hover over the color you are trying to get, and it’ll automatically change the color.

 

Step 5: Text box Settings

Letter spacing allows you to spread the letters apart and line-height spreads each text line apart. Fade lets you change how dark or light you want the text or image. If you go under the effects tab you can add outer and inner shadows, create an outline, and curve your text. Under each tab, you can adjust it to your liking.

Tip 1: Hierarchy

When adding in your information you don’t want to just put it anywhere it needs to flow. Hierarchy helps the viewer navigate your work and when you emphasize the important information that’s what grabs their attention first. The title, date, and prices are bold because it’s all key information.

 

Tip 2: Repetition

Repetition makes your flyer easier to read & gives it a consistent look you can achieve this by using recurring fonts or colors. As you can see the flyer contains 2 different shades of pink and black

 

Tip 3: Contrast

Contrast with size and color is another way you can emphasize information. For example, each header is bigger and has a different color than the information below.
