The Communications Media Department will soon be offering an internship opportunity to all COMM Seniors who have passed COMM 395, are due to graduate in August 2020 or December 2020, and have a GPA of 2.0 or higher. If you choose to apply for this option, you will be assigned to an IUP Faculty Member who will act as your remote internship supervisor for the summer. That supervisor will assign you 320 to 360 hours of remote professional work related to your field. Remember, you may use up to 40 hours of your internship to work on COMM 493 course assignments.
Keep in mind, while every effort will be made to provide you with tasks related to your career goals, there will be duties that may seem unrelated. For instance, you may desire to work as a professional photographer but be assigned to write a research report on whether a community could support a new photography shop. As with any internship, you will be asked to learn new skills and your faculty supervisor will provide you with instruction and support as necessary.
You will meet with your faculty supervisor on a daily basis via email, phone, Zoom, or other remote technology. This is a real internship. Your work will be evaluated as in any internship. As in any internship, you will need to work with your faculty supervisor with a professional demeanor and meet your work responsibilities in an acceptable manner. Mistakes will happen and will result in instruction and opportunities to do better. That said, any unacceptable behavior that would result in being fired from an internship may result in being fired from this internship opportunity at the full discretion of your faculty supervisor.
An application form will be available soon. Contact Dr. Lenze at 724-840-8295 or firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions.
