Today I had the opportunity to learn about the Family Care Mobile Resource Center. Up to last year, people had called it the Mobile Library. They did not understand that the “Library” was also a place for parents to bring their little ones for our Child Check, a free development/autism screening program. Lifesteps decided to change the name, so it better represents everything it offers to the community.

The Family Care Mobile Resource Center is a mobile resource van that travels to rural areas within a 20-mile radius of Indiana. Staff and volunteers oversee the Resource Center. Inside the vehicle, there are books and pamphlets with information for parents and residents of Indiana County on topics including self-help, parenting, behavioral health issues, adult literacy, disabilities information, child development, child check, advocacy, and more. It also has games.

I also learned today that publishers and authors could offer a few copies of their books to a non-profit organization like Lifesteps. I have to come up with a list of authors who have written books with topics like behavioral issue and adult literacy. Later, we can contact these authors to ask if they are willing to donate their books in all formats like hard and soft copies.

Lifesteps is planning to digitize the resource center. I think this could be challenging since not every client living in rural areas has devices like computers and smartphone to be able to access the resources they need online.

For tomorrow, I need to come up with names of people I can invite to support Lifesteps at the Golf event comping up.
